C.T. Studd: From Cricket Star to Missionary

Charles Thomas Studd was born on December 2, 1860, into a wealthy English family. He grew up with every advantage — excellent schools, financial security, and a promising future.

As a young man, he became famous.

Studd was one of England’s top cricket players in the 1880s and helped defeat Australia in the legendary Ashes series of 1882. Crowds cheered his name. Newspapers celebrated him.

But something unexpected happened.

When his brother became seriously ill, C.T. began thinking deeply about life and eternity. He later wrote that he realized fame and wealth would not last forever.

Soon after, he gave away much of his inheritance and chose a very different path.

He decided to become a missionary.
